ST. GEORGE — Slick roads from slush and ice are the cause of multiple accidents and a fatality Monday in the northbound lanes of I-15 near Beaver.
According to Sgt. David Bairett, a red Dodge Durango rolled off the right shoulder and collided with a road sign that crushed the roof of the vehicle. It was heading north near mile marker 110 when the driver lost control just before 4 p.m.
The accident occurred after an isolated hailstorm that left the roads icy, according to the Department of Public Safety.
There were two female occupants in the Durango, according to DPS. Both were wearing their seatbelts. The passenger, an elderly woman, was killed on impact and the driver was transported to Beaver Valley Hospital with minor injuries.
Bairett said he estimates there were between 20-30 vehicles involved in weather-related accidents from mile marker 100-126 on Monday.
“I know in the area I was working, there were at least 14,” he said.
The identity of the individuals involved has not been released at this time.
