Southern Utah Veterans Home hosts annual veterans appreciation 5K/1-mile walk and roll

IVINS — The annual “Veterans Appreciation 5K/1-Mile Stan Snow Walk and Roll” is happening Saturday and offers a chance to honor the nation’s veterans and active military.

Partnered with Run for the Vets, the Southern Utah Veterans Home in Ivins is hosting the event as a way to help raise awareness to challenges that veterans and active-duty members face, according to a press release from the Avalon Health Care Group, which manages the Ivins veterans home.

The website for the event said it will be “an opportunity to pay tribute to veterans while having fun. Southern Utah Veterans Home and Run for the Vets would like to give people a chance to remember the sacrifices American service men and women have made to preserve the way of life people in the United States enjoy.”

Participants will be given bibs to wear that can carry the name of a veteran for whom they are running to honor. They will also receive a shirt and participation medal.

Anyone can participate in the event, though individuals with disabilities are asked to have someone join them.

The event begins with opening ceremonies at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Southern Utah Veterans Home, located at 160 N. 200 East in Ivins. The walk and roll will begin at 9:45 a.m., and the 5K will start at 10 a.m.

Those interested in participating in the event can register online here.

Proceeds from the run support the residents at the Southern Utah Veterans Home by providing financial assistance for activities, events and equipment.

Businesses interested in sponsoring the run can contact Jennifer Ferrau at 435-634-5233 for more information.
