Southern Utah weekend weather forecast: Lower temperatures, but high winds prompt red flag warning

ST. GEORGE — According to the National Weather Service, this weekend’s weather for the majority of southwestern Utah will include sunny skies and high winds. These winds, combined with low humidity, have prompted officials to issue a red flag warning through Saturday for hazardous fire weather conditions.

Below are your St. George, Cedar City, Zion National Park and Lake Powell area weekend weather forecasts, including current warnings and advisories.

St. George

Friday

Sunny with a high of 95 and low of 68, with afternoon winds of 9-17 mph in the afternoon, dropping to 8-11 mph after midnight.

Saturday – High winds

Sunny with a high of 97 and low of 68, with winds starting at 9-14 mph, increasing to 19-24 mph in the afternoon, with gusts as high as 38 mph.

Sunday

Sunny with a high near 96 and a low of 69, with little to no wind.

Cedar City

Friday

Sunny with a high around 84 and a low near 63, with wind between 14-23 mph in the afternoon, dropping to 11-17 mph after midnight.

Saturday – High winds

Sunny with a high of 85 and low of 66. Winds start between 11-16 but will pick up to 25-30 mph in the afternoon, with gusts up to 44 mph.

Sunday – High winds

Sunny with a high of 83 and low of 63. Winds between 21-24 mph, with gusts up to 38 mph.

Zion National Park

Friday

Sunny with a high of 93 and a low of 69, with winds of 13-18 mph.

Saturday – High winds

Sunny with a high of 95 and low of around 72. Winds start between 14-19 but will pick up to 21-26 mph in the afternoon, with gusts up to 40 mph. Winds will drop to 15-17 after midnight.

Sunday

Sunny with a high of 92 and low of 70, with winds around 22 mph.

Lake Powell/Bullfrog Basin/Halls Crossing

Friday

Sunny with a high of 96 and a low of 60, winds of 7-17 mph.

Saturday

Sunny with a high of 98 and low of 66. Winds start between 6-11 mph but will pick up to 17-22 mph in the afternoon.

Sunday

Sunny with a high near 97 and low of 65. Winds start between 7-12 mph but will pick up to 13-18 mph in the afternoon.

A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for the western two thirds of Utah for critical fire weather conditions due to low humidities and strong winds. Conditions are expected to continue into late next week. There is also a fire weather watch and red flag warning in affect for parts of Utah.
